Finautor AI tutorials

Step-by-step walkthroughs of the AI research workflows.

Step-by-step walkthroughs of the workflows people use most on Finautor.

Ask a research question

Open the chat and ask in plain English — "What were NVDA's last 4 earnings?" or "How is the S&P 500 performing this week?" Add "show me a chart" for a visual, and use time ranges ("YTD", "last 6 months"). Finautor answers with live data and cites its sources; ask follow-ups naturally and it keeps context.

You don't have to type. Tap the microphone to dictate a question (transcribed in real time, in your browser's language), or paste an image — a screenshot, a chart, a broker view — straight into the input with Cmd/Ctrl+V and ask about what it shows.

Build a live dashboard

  1. Go to Dashboards in the sidebar and click New Dashboard; give it a name.
  2. Use the chat input at the bottom: "Add a price chart for AAPL over the last 6 months" or "Show a table of NVDA, MSFT, and GOOGL with PE ratios and YTD performance."
  3. Drag and resize widgets to taste. You can also pin any chart or table from a normal chat with the 📌 button.

Each dashboard writes a short thesis explaining why you built it and generates a daily morning brief of what's moving (with confidence-coded, source-attributed notes). Edit anything from chat — "swap the AAPL widget for NVDA", "refresh the 3 widgets", "update the thesis to focus on AI infrastructure" — and every change has an Undo. Deleted a widget by mistake? Restore it from the "Recently deleted" dropdown within 24 hours.

Power keys: press ? on a dashboard for the full cheatsheet. The handy ones — n new widget, t edit thesis, r refresh, g grid edit mode, e/f/Delete act on the focused widget. Shortcuts pause automatically while you're typing.

Generate a report

Ask Finautor to turn any analysis into a downloadable, branded document: "Make me a PDF portfolio review for Q1", "Create an Excel of my YTD returns with a line chart", "Generate a slide deck of my top 5 positions". Five formats are available — Markdown (default), PDF, Excel, Word, PowerPoint — each with charts where the data warrants, source attribution on every number, a methodology section, and a standard disclaimer. A download chip appears in chat and stays live for 30 days, so you can grab the file again later.

Schedule an automation

Describe a recurring task once and Finautor runs it on a schedule: "Every Monday at 8am, summarise my eToro portfolio performance and the top 3 market movers." Manage, pause, edit, or delete automations from the Automations page, where each keeps a run log so you can review every past output. Ask Finautor to "enable email notifications" on an automation, and you'll also get an in-app bell alert (and a phone push, if set up) when a run finishes.

Working with the Brain

After substantive conversations, Finautor saves the key insights as structured pages in your Brain — your private research memory, organised by category with cross-references and a freshness indicator. The next time you ask a related question, it picks up where you left off. Ask "What do I already know about NVDA?" any time.

  • Edit from anywhere. Edit a page on the Brain screen (pencil icon, up to 10,000 characters, every edit versioned), or just ask in chat: "Update my NVDA page — Q1 earnings beat by 12%." You'll get an inline confirmation chip with a 5-second Undo (max 3 Brain changes per message).
  • Pin what matters. Pin a page (star icon) to bubble it to the top and protect it from auto-archiving and cleanup — ideal for your thesis or strategy notes. You unpin before archiving, on purpose.
  • Archive & recover. Archive a page (from the screen or by asking in chat) and it leaves your active Brain immediately, with a 5-second Undo. Archived pages are restorable for 30 days, then permanently removed. Select multiple pages to pin, archive, or restore in bulk.
  • Automatic tidying. Pages you (or the AI) haven't read in a while get a "Stale" badge at 30 days and "Inactive" at 60 days; dormant pages may be auto-archived during routine maintenance (pinned pages are always protected). You're notified whenever a maintenance run actually changes something — and silence means nothing changed.
  • Scope to a portfolio. Say "switch to my Studio portfolio for this session" and the chat is scoped to that context — Finautor reads only Brain pages tagged with it (plus your universal pages), and new pages inherit the tag. Say "back to universal" to clear it. To organise existing pages, ask "audit my Brain — which pages look like Studio vs Personal?", review the proposed tags, then "apply the Studio tags". Universal (untagged) pages show in every session; context-tagged pages appear only in a matching one.
  • Long pages stay lean. Brain pages have a size cap so they're fast for the AI to read at the start of every session. Save very long content and Finautor keeps the title, top context, and most recent entries (trimming the middle) — your full original is preserved in the page's version history, revertable any time.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Install it on your phone. Add Finautor to your home screen for an app-like, full-screen experience — on iPhone via Safari's Share → Add to Home Screen; on Android via Chrome's Install prompt. Once installed you can turn on background chat so replies keep generating while your phone is locked, and get a push notification the moment one's ready.
  • Notifications. On desktop, allow browser notifications to get pinged when a long task finishes while you're on another tab. Notifications fire only when you're not already looking at Finautor. If they don't arrive, check your OS notification settings, that Do Not Disturb / Focus is off, and (on Android) that battery optimisation isn't suspending Chrome.
  • A widget looks empty or wrong? Click the ↻ to refresh — most rendering hiccups clear on the next data pull. If the freshness dot is amber/red or you see "Refresh failed — showing last successful data", the source had a transient issue and your last good data is preserved. If it persists, delete the widget and re-ask Finautor to create it from chat.
  • "Could not reload the full chat"? A network glitch stopped the history from re-loading — your messages are safe on the server. Refresh the page and it returns.

On mobile

Open any dashboard on your phone and your thesis, daily brief, and widgets stack vertically with full data fidelity. Editing a grid layout still needs a desktop (touch on a 4-column grid is rough), but viewing, reading the brief, chatting, and managing your Brain all work on mobile. Edit on your laptop and the change shows on your phone within a second.
